For many, a vacation is a time to completely unwind. And what you usually don’t want then are children playing screaming around the pool or otherwise causing a fuss around you. No problem, that’s what the Adults Only accommodations on Curacao are for.
So what is Adults Only?
Adults Only really means little more than however you would say it in Dutch, “Adults Only”. You won’t encounter children there, with the age limit usually being 18 (sometimes 16). Adults Only really does not mean that the owner and/or guests hate children. Often you will find that the owner has children of his own and the guests at home enjoy their own (grand)children to the fullest. And at the smaller Adult Only accommodations (ex. a B&B or Mini-Resort) you are certainly also welcome with children there if, for example, you want to rent the whole accommodation as a large family. What matters most is a relaxed atmosphere where there is no nuisance of noise or crowding by (small) children. Just as there are accommodations specifically geared toward families, an Adult Only then is specifically geared toward adults. No crowds with toys and slides in the pool, no children’s entertainment, etc. So a common slogan around Adults Only is, “we love kids, but sometimes it’s nice to be alone with adults.”

The term “Adults Only”
In the travel world, the term “Adults Only” is used for accommodations that welcome guests over a certain age (usually 18 yr.). In other industries, you sometimes encounter the term as well, mainly indicating activities that are not suitable for children. Think 18+ movies or activities toward gambling, among other things. However, at an Adults Only accommodation on Curacao all that is not the issue; it is about the peace and relaxation that can be offered by not having to pay attention to children.
Adults Only on Curacao
Curacao also offers more and more accommodations that adopt the Adults Only concept. There are not many of them yet, but they are all beautiful accommodations and possible in all price ranges:
Kura Botanica
A wonderful accommodation in the middle of authentic Otrobanda, the tourist center of the city. The complex consists of some old streets with old houses that have been beautifully refurbished into a luxury Adults Only hotel. Kura Botanica offers very good personal service. Opened in early 2023 so everything still looks brilliant. Here you will really unwind, in complete silence among the botanical gardens.
Casa Amalia
A beautiful small hotel with 11 rooms and 8 apartments. Located in Jan Thiel, it takes 3 minutes to get to the beach, beach bars, restaurants, a large supermarket and all kinds of nice stores. Adults Only & Smoke Free. Owner Haitham is very approachable and takes pride in having you come to his spacious villa to enjoy a wonderful vacation in a homely atmosphere. No excessive decoration and thus also perfectly priced.
Sandals Royal Curacao
Also new, this is a top-luxe Adults Only resort on Curacao. Sandals is known for their luxury resorts in the Caribbean, and they certainly live up to that on Curacao. An All-Inclusive concept and depending on which room you book you have butler service, walk straight from your room on your terrace into the pool or even a private pool by your room, among other things. Nicer. more luxurious and comfortable than this you won’t find.
The Ritz Village
On the site of former ice cream factory Ritz, you’ll find The Ritz Village. In the historic Scharloo neighborhood with stunning street art, you are within walking distance of the tourist center (including Handelskade and Pontjesbrug). The attractive accommodation (industrial heritage) offers a city beach, swimming pool and even a museum, among other things. Really great accommodation at a great price.
Villa l’Orangerie
What a wonderful stay at this Adults Only mini-resort owned by Marcel & Sjaak. You won’t find more zen than here in Curacao. A beautiful garden with beautiful flowers, fine apartments and top service from the owners. From the Julianadorp neighborhood, you are close to everything. Whether you want to go to the tourist center of the city or to the many beaches outside the city, it takes no time at all to get there.
The Ritz Residence
On the grounds of The Ritz Village is also The Ritz Residence: a new and modern apartment complex. There are 42 luxury 1-room apartments (including some Penthouses). A beautiful Adults Only resort, with also a hotel and hostel on the same property. Enjoy on the city beach or walk straight into the center with all kinds of restaurants, bars and the famous hotspots.
Nudism (“Clothing Optional”)
Another misconception that sometimes exists is that Adults Only would also mean that the accommodation allows nudism on the property. There are certainly resorts for that as well, but then they are usually clearly touted with the phrase “Clothing Optional. If you don’t read anything about this in the accommodation description (and 98% of them will), then you can assume that at the Adults Only resort people will keep the clothes on.
