What to expect
This trip will be one of the highlights of your vacation, for sure.
At 08:00 you are expected to check in at the Fishing Port, Caracas Bay. After checking in you will find a nice spot on the boat and at 08:15 you will depart for a beautiful day. After only half an hour of sailing you will arrive at the first stop, and that is immediately a very nice one: Tugboat! At about 7 meters deep lies a sunken boat through the clear water this boat is clearly visible, even if you swim over it on the surface. There are always many colorful tropical fish to be seen here. Next to the boat you will also find plenty of coral. Of course when snorkeling you are accompanied by someone from the crew.
After about half an hour the trip continues and you sail along the city with some famous locations such as Jan Thiel Beach, Mambo Beach and the famous Pontjesbrug in the middle of the city.
When you have left the city behind you after about an hour of sailing, already the next stop is Kokomo. A popular beach, but you mainly stay in the bay. Have a nice swim, snorkel and relax. Then you sail along “the countryside” of Curaçao towards the west. You pass beautiful beaches with rugged nature in between and here or there you see the beautiful villas of Curaçao overlooking the sea.
And then suddenly you are at Manzalina. A still fairly untouched beach that is not known to most tourists, but certainly worth snorkeling and swimming again. From Manzalina it is a half hour boat ride to one of the most famous snorkeling locations on Curaçao: Blue Room! This cave is only accessible by sea (of course the crew will help you again if you want). Through a beautiful twist of nature, the sun shines in through the water here, creating a beautiful blue glow. Hence the name Blue Room. If you can take your camera waterproof into the water, then you should definitely do that here.
After Blue Room it is a short sail to SantaCruz. Here you will be offered a delicious bbq lunch and finally board the bus for the return trip.
Back by bus
After the bbq (usually about 15:15), the bus will come ahead and take you back to the Fishing Harbour. Going back by bus has several advantages:
- You don’t sail back the same route you saw on the way out. Instead, the bus will give you a scenic ride along the coast toward the city.
- After all that swimming and snorkeling, you’ll be tired too; the bus will get you back nice and fast (about an hour’s drive to the Fishing Harbour).
- Perhaps the best advantage of “taking the bus back”: if you have to take the boat back east, you always have to go against the current. That means the boat will move against the waves, which can cause seasickness for some. So you have no chance of seasickness with this trip.
Around 16:00 to 16:15 you will be back at the Fishing Harbour and this beautiful trip will come to an end. No doubt you have had a wonderful day.
