Playa Jeremi <\/a>is a quiet beach on the west side of Cura\u00e7ao, not far from the village of Lagun. From Willemstad, drive towards Westpunt and turn off at the exit to Soto\/Lagun. Follow the road towards Lagun and then take the exit to Jeremi. After a short dirt road you will arrive at this little paradise. From downtown Willemstad it takes about 45 minutes. Above the beach is a small parking lot where you can park your car for free, then walk up a flight of stairs to the beach.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The history behind Playa Jeremi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The name Playa Jeremi comes from the nearby area of Jeremi, where the ruins of Landhuis Jeremi, are located. These remains from the 19th century are part of the landscape and tell an important piece of Cura\u00e7ao history. You will find remnants of plantation buildings, such as a main building and an old water reservoir, which have been slowly absorbed into nature. The area is linked to Cura\u00e7ao’s slavery past and today is a special place where history and natural beauty come together. Peace & space<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Unlike many other beaches on Cura\u00e7ao, Playa Jeremi is rarely really busy. Because the beach has no extensive facilities and is somewhat secluded, people come here mostly for those who consciously choose peace and nature. Even in high season, the beach feels spacious and relaxed. Playa Jeremi is a public beach, which means you don’t have to pay for access. There are beach beds and umbrellas that you can rent. A single beach bed costs Xg 7.50 each. Would you like an umbrella to go with it? Then for Xg 35, you can rent two beach beds and a parasol for the day. These can be paid by debit card or cash. There are no toilets or restaurants. That means: bring everything you need yourself. Think of a cooler with enough water, food and possibly snorkeling gear. Do you have your own beach chairs and\/or parasol? Snorkeling at Playa Jeremi<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Playa Jeremi is known as an excellent snorkeling spot. The water is often mirror-smooth and already from the shore you can see many fish. Especially along the rocks on both sides of the bay, the marine life is beautiful. Coral, colorful fish and sometimes even a turtle make snorkeling here really worthwhile. Because the beach is quite quiet, snorkeling here feels extra relaxing. Tip:<\/strong> You can’t rent anything at Playa Jeremi, so bring your own snorkeling gear. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Shade & subsoil<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Because Playa Jeremi is located in a bay between the rocks, you can only get to the beach by stairs. The stairs consist of about four large, wide, steps and are not steep, but if you have very poor mobility, the beach is more difficult to reach. Natural shade can be found along the rocks surrounding the beach, but these spots are limited. If you come later in the day, then an umbrella of your own is definitely not a luxury. The beach consists of sand with stones and rocks here and there, both on the beach and in the water. You can walk very gradually into the water, nevertheless, water shoes are recommended, especially when walking in and out of the sea. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
